Thai chili wings air fryer prep

  1. Dry the chicken wings with a paper towel. If using frozen chicken wings, defrost them fully.
Put the chicken wings, cornstarch, and spices in a zip-lock bag.
  2. Close the bag securely and remove all air.
  3. Shake and squeeze the wings until they are all coated. Alternatively, combine the baking powder (or cornstarch) and spice in a bowl and dip the wings. I prefer the bag technique since it is easiest.

Top tips for air frying Thai Chicken Wings

  • Avoid overcrowding the sweet chili wings. The heated air must flow around them (for proper convection).
  • Please allow your wings to dry! Pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel as much as possible.
  • Seasonings for dry rubbed wings should be added after the wings have cooked for a few minutes.

Baking vs. Air Frying Thai Chicken Wings

If you’d rather bake these sweet chili chicken wings, they will still be crispy and you can prepare a bunch at once.

You can air fry about 10 Thai chicken wings at a time. Suitable for small parties or a two-person meal. Oven baked chicken wings are excellent for parties or even tailgating events.

If cooking sweet chili chicken wings in the oven, prepare the wings and sauce as directed. Preheat oven to 425°F when ready to bake wings.

Cook for 20 minutes on a cookie sheet in a single layer. After 20 minutes, turn the chicken wings and cook for another 20 minutes, or until done. Toss the  chicken wings in sweet chili sauce, broil for approximately 3 minutes.

FAQ

Are air fryer Thai wings sticky?

Yes! And to get these Thai wings even stickier, air fry them a bit longer.

Can I use frozen wings for this recipe?

Air frying frozen chicken wings is not something I suggest.

Frozen wings contain a lot of liquid. Excess moisture will collect in the basket when they defrost, causing steam, making wings soft.

Can you freeze wings?

Yes, chicken wings may be frozen for 3 months. After cooking in the air fryer, place wings in a freezer bag and freeze, making sure there’s enough space so wings do not get stuck together.

Heat the wings in the oven or air fryer until heated all the way through and throw in the sweet and spicy wing sauce.

The thai chili sauce may also be frozen, lying flat, in zippered bags.

Tips for re-heating chicken wings

Microwave sweet chili chicken wings for 45-60 seconds until hot and steaming. Alternately, warm in the oven for 10 minutes at 350°F.
